Herbal Healing: A Holistic Eczema Treatment

Holistic Eczema Treatment - Natural products on table

Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition that causes the skin to be dry, red, and incredibly itchy.  While various creams and ointments can help soothe symptoms, many people are turning instead to holistic eczema treatments to find relief.

This is because natural ingredients, such as aloe vera and coconut oil, are naturally equipped to combat inflammation and reduce swelling thanks to their moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

Judit Beres, founder of Herbal Healing, shares her story of how she created her holistic eczema treatment.

There is nothing worse than watching your child suffer.  As a mother of three kids, I have experience in dealing with this. My own son suffered from severe eczema when he was younger.

It was a warm, North Carolina winter when he was born.  Everything started blooming at the end of February, beginning of March.  To make the most of the warm weather, I regularly took him out for strolls around the neighborhood, embracing the fresh air and beautiful spring feeling.  The flowers were blossoming, the leaves were green, the sun was shining…

But around two months after his birth, I noticed a rash had developed on his skin.  To my dismay, it seemed that no matter what I did, I could not bring it under control.  In search of answers, I took him to a dermatologist who simply said it was atopic dermatitis and recommended Vaseline.  I applied this in vain. His skin just got worse and I couldn’t understand why.

Nights were horrible.  He tossed and turned restlessly, scratching his skin until it bled.  I tried everything from Benadryl to steroids to colloidal oatmeal baths and creams, but nothing seemed to help.  The doctors could not offer a remedy.

As a mother, this was my worst nightmare.  I watched him suffer, his little body covered in a red rash that seemed to get worse as time went on. I felt powerless that I couldn’t ease his pain or bring him comfort.

You see, what I didn’t know at that time was that my son had environmental allergies and his body was reacting to the pollen in the air.  The next spring, he would develop impetigo, a skin infection caused by relentless scratching.

It was not until he was two years old, when we tested him for allergies, that we learned the real cause of his rashes.  While it was a huge consolation to at least know the cause, we had trouble finding relief for his terrible rash – especially during the spring, when his allergies were at their worst!

But I was determined to find a solution for my son.  I continued struggling and researching the cause, trying to find something, anything, that could help.  After 9 years of trial and error testing different treatments, I finally decided to try a homemade remedy using medicinal herbs.

I had read that calendula salves and creams seemed to help calm rashes and soothe itching.  So I consulted with an herbalist to ask for guidance on what medicinal herbs were best to help heal the skin. She recommended witch hazel (a natural astringent), marshmallow (an emollient) and lavender (an antimicrobial plant).

In a desperate attempt to heal my son once and for all, I used her recommendations and started making a calendula salve in my own kitchen.

With my research background, I also decided to include Ashwagandha, a powerful apoptogenic, ayurvedic herb known to help reduce inflammation. Ashwagandha’s anti-inflammatory benefits are supported by over 900 research studies and typically suggested for oral and topical use.

I was relieved and beyond overjoyed when the natural balm worked.  After countless trips to different doctors and numerous failed attempts to soothe his skin, it seemed like a miracle.

My son is now 10 years old and while he still lives with eczema, his condition is now under control.

Helping heal my son with a holistic eczema treatment propelled me to help others struggling with eczema.  This is how Mother’s Healing Balm and our herbal product line was created. I wanted to find a solution to heal skin naturally while caring deeply for the environment.

All ingredients are mostly organic, vegan, cruelty free, and verified by the Environmental Working Group.

My personal experience with eczema was long, challenging, and at times, very dark.  There were times when I felt like a bad mother, wondering if I would ever heal my son.  I am grateful that I realized the power of natural remedies in treating an inflammatory skin condition like eczema.  My hope is that you and your loved ones can find the same relief.

I am almost in tears reading this because I am currently going through horrible TRAUMA with my daughter who is 28 months old. She had a staph infection earlier this year because it got so bad. I feel we have a collection of creams (all natural, prescription and over the counter). We have tried the wet wrap therapy too, nothing is working. DESPERATE
