Because eczema can be extremely uncomfortable and debilitating for children, many parents are starting to turn towards alternative, more holistic medicine practices like Ayurvedic treatments, NAET, or Acupressure for child eczema. Many are also beginning to look into essential oils for kids.
Essential oils have been used by many eczema sufferers who are looking to remedy their eczema through holistic methods. By looking at the bigger picture and healing with essential oils’ anti-inflammatory and stress inducing properties, sufferers are able to promote healing while eliminating their stress as well.
Although many babies and toddlers happen to grow out of their eczema, there are still many cases of eczema in kids. Although there are many types of dermatitis, child eczema usually appears in the folds of the elbows and/or knees. However, child eczema can also appear on the hands, scalp and face.
Many children often experience flare-ups due to seasonal allergies, food sensitivities, or various allergens. Prior to choosing a course of treatment, it’s best to know what might be triggering your eczema.
Essential Oils for Kids
Although essential oils can be used for child eczema, it’s important to know that they should be used with caution and intent. There is a wide range of recommendations for using topical essentials oils for kids, but this is a good rule of thumb.
Best Essential Oils for Kids:
In a study that researched the treatment of atopic dermatitis in children, researchers found that the following essential oils were beneficial for child eczema:
- Sweet Marjoram

Natural Skincare with Essential Oils
If you are uneasy about diluting essential oils properly and applying them to your child’s skin, rest assured that there are a variety of natural skincare products that include safe essential oils for kids. One of these products is Grass Fed Tallow Balm with Lavender and Tea Tree Oil. This balm is perfect for itchy, dry skin that needs proper hydration. Not only is this balm super fatty from the grass fed tallow (cattle rendered fat), but both the lavender and tea tree oil promote healing and prevent scarring.
Another option is this Conqueror Eczema Balm that includes natural ingredients to moisturize and soothe dry, inflamed skin. This balm contains primrose oil, tea tree leaf oil, neem oil, borage oil and was formulated specifically for eczema.
Keep in mind that although these essential oils may be beneficial for eczema in children, ALWAYS test a small patch of skin. Many eczema sufferers have found relief with these products, but any natural product can contain an ingredient that won’t agree with your skin.
