Eczema in Children: How Scratch Mittens Bring Relief

ScratchMeNot - A lasting, scratching solution for eczema in children

By Andrea Thomas (see bio below)

What started off as a tiny red patch of skin on my newborn daughter, turned into a journey of eczema, skin allergies and craziness.

My daughter was only 2 months when eczema began to rear its face. I, like many moms, went to the doctor to figure out what was wrong. I was told it was just “baby skin”; to give it time for the dry, redness to clear up. Well, it didn’t. As a matter of fact, it spread to all of her joints, face and scalp. These are memories I wish I could go back and change; the days of having a screaming and crying child all day and all night that rarely slept and constantly scratched. This was our life for months.

Scratching Ourselves Crazy

By 6 months, I had had enough of her skin concerns. High levels of anxiety and a lack of sleep took over our family. Eczema was showing itself even more. She lost most of her hair from cradle cap with eczema underneath. Her facial skin was obviously two different skin tones, while the rest of her body had similar pigmentation issues, crocodile skin and raw sores where she continued to scratch. Her doctors kept prescribing steroids and saying it wasn’t food or anything I was doing wrong, sometimes kids just have eczema. The end. No one had a solution for the scratching caused by her skin allergies. Any progress we made with her skin healing, she’d destroy it in a matter of seconds by scratching it raw again. Of course, I tried traditional baby mittens, socks, creams, cutting nails low, onesies with the mitts and so many other products that failed to help.

In order for me to get a handle on her skin issues, I had to stop this vicious cycle of scratching first and find an effective eczema treatment for babies.

ScratchSleeves with Scratch Mittens for Eczema in Children

Here are a few things about these ScratchSleeves with Scratch Mittens:

  • Scratch mittens that open and close; allowing fine gross motor skill development to continue without interference.
  • Stay on! They’re easy for parents to put on, yet hard for little ones to take off.
  • Allow her to hold things easily with the mittens closed.
  • Be versatile and blend in with her clothing.

The results:

  • It stopped my daughter from scratching!
  • They stayed on all day, yet she could explore the world with her fingers too with the flip of a mitten. At a moment’s notice of any scratching, I could flip them closed.
  • Her skin was healing! Creams were able to stay on long enough to work.

After the ScratchSleeves with scratch mittens, our stress levels went down, car rides were a breeze, sleep prevailed (yay!) and my daughter’s skin was repairing itself! I was able to fully focus on the underlying cause of her scratching and skin allergies. For us, it ended up being food allergies. We were able to remove steroids completely, allowing us to focus on her diet, skin regimen and health. Today, she’s thriving, and almost 100% eczema free.

I continue to urge parents to try something new, trust your instinct and perhaps look into alternative measures to get to the root of eczema.
