Our Journey of Healing Asthma, Eczema, Allergies with Homeopathy (Part 1)

Homeopathic Medication

First, a little disclaimer. Do I really believe homeopathy can cure my son, Tristan’s, life threatening food allergies? No, I do not. Do I even want to attempt that? Probably not, as I don’t want to subject my son to even a little bit of his food allergens at this point. But do I hope to cure or at least improve his seasonal allergies? ABSOLUTELY! Although allergy testing for seasonal and environmental allergies came back negative, Tristan’s allergist and I both know birch and ragweed are at least some of the triggers for his asthma flare ups.

So, just to be clear as we start this journey through homeopathy, what do I honestly hope to accomplish for my son with this controversial treatment method?

  • Reduced asthmatic coughing and wheezing (mostly during late spring – late summer and during sickness)
  • Reduced or no need to use Flovent during the asthma flare ups.
  • Reduced need for Ventolin throughout the year.
  • Less frequent eczema flares throughout the year, but mostly in the spring when it’s the worst.
  • Reduced severity of spring time eczema flare up.
  • Less severe symptoms during sickness.
  • Less frequent illness.

With our goals in mind, we met with a new homeopathic doctor in the hopes of improving Tristan’s worsening asthma. Yes, I said NEW homeopathic doctor. I took Tristan to a different homeopath a couple of years ago, before we determined his eczema triggers through an elimination diet. We didn’t see any results back then and I believe it was mostly because my son was still eating all the foods that were damaging his body – thus, the homeopathy couldn’t do it’s job. I’m hoping this time will be different. We also used some pre-made homeopathic tinctures after eliminating Tristan’s trigger foods and they did really help. We used Homeodel 43 and Dr. Reckweg 23 along with Moducare, an immune balancer, for about one year before slowly stopping them altogether when his skin was just gorgeous. But now it’s been some time and while he still has small eczema flares, we’re more concerned about his chronic cough and asthma.

So, this time we chose to see a new homeopathic doctor recommended to us by Michel Groleau of Homeopathy Quebec. The meeting went well and I am hopeful. Our take away from this initial meeting, according to the doctor, is to work on cleansing my son’s body from the effects of the vaccinations (takes a minimum of 8 months!), while working on strengthening his immune system and treating the symptoms of allergies, eczema and asthma (for 3 months). After the first three months, we’ll go back and check in with the doctor. At that point, he’ll make adjustments to Tristan’s treatment plan as needed. And if all is going well, we may proceed to treating Tristan’s specific seasonal and environmental allergens, essentially trying to cure him of them altogether.

In the mean time, we will continue to use Flovent and Ventolin as needed. Here is our current treatment plan, if you’re curious. *Please do not copy this treatment plan for your personal use. It was created specifically for my son based on his history, personality, and severity of symptoms. It will not have the same effect for you or your children.*

Homeopathic Medication

For cleansing the vaccinations, apparently MMR is his biggest concern:

MMR VACCINE, vials of granules

1st Month
5CH – 5 granules nightly before bedtime
2nd Month
7CH – 5 granules nightly before bedtime
3rd Month
9CH – 5 granules nightly before bedtime
4th Month
15CH – 1 dose each week before breakfast
5th Month
30CH – 1 dose each month before breakfast
6th Month
200CH – 1 dose per month before breakfast
7th Month
1,000CH – 1 dose per month before breakfast
8th Month
10,000CH – 1 dose per month before breakfast

For strengthening his immune system:

SULFUR IOD, 30CH – 1 dose each week

For treating the symptoms of allergies, asthma, and eczema:

100ml Custom Tincture containing:

IPECA 5CH
BLATTA 5CH
ANTIMONIUM TART 9CH
KALIUM ARSENICOSUM 7CH
HISTAMINIUM 7CH

30 drops daily. If symptoms worsen, take up to 20 drops per hour. If symptoms continue to worsen, we’ll discontinue treatment and head in to see the doctor right away.

If we experience any vast improvements or worsening of his condition, I’ll post an update on the blog. Otherwise, the next post about our homeopathic journey will be in three months when we have a follow-up visit with the homeopath.

Wish us luck! Fingers crossed!

Just doing what it takes to heal my son safely. Most the time it feels like I’m grasping at straws. It’s been a very frustrating journey, but I feel like we’re getting there slowly.

i was reading through and just wanted to know have you had any success. We are to see a homeopath soon.

        • Jennifer on December 13, 2013 at 2:07 pm

Hi Zara – Sadly, not yet. I know it can take time, but my son is on a liquid that should be helping already, and it’s not. We’re going to keep going and plan to meet and regroup with the doctor soon.

My parents spent a lot of money on homeopathic treatments for my allergies as a child. Sadly, they had no effect. Now I know more about how this therapy actually works, I understand why. Please consider taking time to read articles like the one on Wikipedia about homeopathy. It explains how many of the therapies given do not contain so much as a single molecule of the supposed “active ingredient” and how many consider it a pseudoscience.

I hope your little boy gets relief from his allergies. As someone who has suffered all my life with food allergies, eczema and asthma I deeply sympathise, but also feel it is my duty to warn you that there are many people out there only too happy to see you part with your hard earned cash with false promises of improved health.

Hi Louise – Thank you so much for your concern. I do know that homeopathy can be costly and that many don’t believe in it’s health claims. But as one that is desperate to find answers, I’m willing to try anything deemed safe to heal my child. It sounds like your parents felt the same. We’ve already dappled in homeopathy and saw great results with one method and no results with another method. I think it’s about finding the right practitioner and trying different things with that doctor. And results are never instantaneous as with conventional medicine. And for some, results may never come. We’re just going to give homeopathy another go and see what happens. Our fingers are crossed, but as I said in the blog post, I don’t expect miracles. And lucky for us, our insurance covers homeopathy, so we won’t be out anything if this doesn’t work for us. Thank you again Louise for your concern.

Interesting! Have always heard abt Homeopathy as an alternative healing method, but not quite sure how it works. The drops for allergies are for inhaling or consumed?

Hope this method works for your child and love to hear abt your experience with this later on.

    • Jennifer on October 31, 2013 at 1:06 pm

Hi Shan – Yes, we’re eager to see results and will definitely share our journey as we go. The drops are for consumption – they are placed under the tongue and held there for 30 seconds to be absorbed into the blood stream and then are swallowed. There are also little tiny pills that the same is done with – they must melt under the tongue. So unusual, I know, but makes sense. The lining in the mouth is so thin, particularly so under the tongue, making it easier for medicine to be absorbed that way.

I love what you do and that you share your experiences. I just had to point out that I think you used the word “infamous” wrong [“the man behind the infamous Calendulis Cream that we love so dearly”]. I felt the need to point this out because I am so thankful for this cream for clearing up my son’s eczema that I didn’t want anyone to get the wrong idea when they read your sentence. All the best! And again, thank you for sharing your experiences.

    • Jennifer on November 1, 2013 at 9:22 pm

Hi Jerilyn – thanks so much for pointing that out! I really appreciate it and I’m so happy you love the Calendulis Cream as much as we do!

Looking forward to reading about the results as you pursue this therapy! Question: have you blogged about vaccinations? In your experience and understanding, what about them was particularly harmful for your son? We delayed shots and have selected specific ones for my infant daugter so far, but I am still wary of vaccinations in general.

    • Jennifer on November 19, 2013 at 1:56 pm

Hi Ruth – I have not personally blogged about vaccinations, but I do believe delayed is best for kids with allergic conditions. I found the information in Healing the New Childhood Epidemic and Gut and Psychology Syndrome books very helpful.

My son suffers tremendously with all of the above…we have been trying tons of natural remedies to no avail..we are currently scheduled to head to National Jewish Children’s in Denver to come up with a plan for him. THank you for this awesome blog with so much information…this has been a rough 10 years on us and nothing seems to ever work for him. If it’s ok, I am posting my link to our fundraiser for my son’s treatment. Thanks again and GOD Bless! https://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/help-bailey-get-to-special-skin-clinic-in-denver/102046

Great post. I have never heard of a vaccine cleanse. Can you describe what it does to the body?

    • Jennifer on February 28, 2014 at 6:09 pm

Hi Laura – It is just the idea of removing any impurities and toxins left behind by the vaccines. I don’t know much more about the specifics. Jennifer

Good article. Here i want to say about how homeopathy helps to control asthma. Asthma is a disease affecting the airways that carry air in and out of your lungs. Natural remedies are available in Homeopathy for controlling Asthma, these control symptoms and eliminate the risk of its attacks.
