Giveaway & Review: Allerbling Kid’s Allergy Bracelets
With Tristan going off to day camp this summer, I searched for an allergy bracelet he’d want to wear. Something that would handle the wear and tear and the pool! Plus, we wanted something durable so it would last him through the school year as well. My son is pretty shy about his allergies and a bracelet would just further set him apart from the crowd, but I knew it was important for his safety, so, I was looking for something that was both fun for him to wear and easy for him explain to anyone that asked him about it.
What did we find? Allerbling, allergy bracelets for kids!
Allerbling bracelets feature multiple charms you can add to customize the bracelet and make it unique to your child’s food allergies. At the beginning of the summer we added the medical alert charm, tree nuts, dairy, and wheat. By the end of the summer we were able to remove wheat as it no longer triggers a reaction, yay!
My Take:
What I love about these allergy bracelets for kids is that they are bright (medical professionals will notice them), feature cute kid friendly designs, they’re waterproof and perfect for school, camp, sports, etc. I think it’s great the charms can be added and removed as needed. So many kids either develop additional allergies or grow out of existing ones, so Allerbling can be modified to accommodate these changes. And Allerbling will last as your child ages – if you buy the Full Allerbling Kit (shown above), it comes with two sized bracelets (as well as charms for the top 8 food allergens – other charms can be purchased separately), one for a smaller child and one for a larger child. The name of the allergy is written out in English on each charm, but the images clearly depict the allergy, making these bracelets useful in any language.
My Son’s Take:
Honestly, he wasn’t thrilled at first. As I said above, he’s quite shy about his allergies and doesn’t like to call attention to the fact that he’s different in any way. BUT, he’d seen Kyle Dine (who is AMAZING!) sporting an allergy bracelet at a food allergy concert at a local school, so that helped a lot. Then he saw a kid wearing an Allerbling bracelet at camp and then suddenly, wearing one was no big deal. Now he’s proud of it and has asked to wear it on a couple of occasions outside of camp and school. He’s had a few close calls recently, so allergic reactions are very real for him and I know the bracelet makes him feel more in control and empowered. When he meets someone new and he’s wearing the bracelet, he shows them the pictures of the allergies and explains what they are. So, I can say, he’s definitely comfortable and more confident in his Allerbling bracelet.

My son has a dairy allergy, and some other sensitivities. He is only 20 months old, so he hasn’t had to deal with it on his own yet, but he does realize he get’s different food than other kids at parties.

Cool! I’ve been looking for a bracelet for our little one for a while… He’s got unusual allergies that are not “covered” by allerbling (kiwi, mustard, latex), but some of his allergens are (tree nuts, peanuts, shelfish, sesame), so it’s a good start! Just wondering though and I presume there isn’t any as it is a pretty well known allergen, but is there latex in the bracelet or the charms? Thanks!

We have this bracelet for our son. We definitely try to have him wear it when we are at places such and the zoo, amusement parks, etc… He doesn’t like to wear it, but he’s one of those kids where every tag has to be cut out of shirts and such. Overall, it’s a great bracelet, though!
I think it’s great he’s wearing it a bit to get used to it. Eventually, it will become so normal, maybe he won’t even notice it bothering him anymore. One can hope 🙂
My son has a severe latex allergy and has worn this bracelet for two years. We love it! You can suggest new charms on Allerbling’s website. My son has more allergies than fit on the bracelet so we use the medical charm also, to serve as a general warning.

My sons both have food allergies, asthma and excema. Big Brother is peanut allergic and tons of environmentals, Little brother is kiwi. We have lots of sensitivities that cause the eczema to flare up too, it is a constant struggle, as it seems to be something different every time. So frustrating and heartbreaking.
Hi Shelley – it is a struggle, that’s putting it mildly! Managing eczema is hard enough, but then adding asthma, and allergies – yikes! This would be great to have as a reminder for whoever is caring for or around my daughter. I’m around her all the time, but people who aren’t forget and tend to offer her food options she can’t have. She is allergic to milk, eggs, wheat, mangos, melon, strawberries, and peanuts that we know of.

I love this idea! my son is terribly allergic to dairy and this would be so awesome. He is little so maybe getting him used to wearing a warning bracelet now would be better than when he gets a older. I like how bright colored they are kids are sure to love them.

I have 3 kids, 2 with allergies. Both are allergic to peanuts and have epi pens for them. My eldest outgrew his dairy, soy, egg, and wheat allergy. My youngest is allergic to nuts, dairy, soy, chicken, and grains (including rice) to name a few. It is very difficult with my youngest as most foods contain these ingredients. We try and give them special treats they can eat and try and teach all 3 to be cautious with what they eat.

My older son suffers from severe peanut / tree nut allergies, egg allergy, eczema and asthma – he is almost nine, and the severity of eczema has thankfully declined over the years. However, he continues to be allergic to most pollens and allergens in the atmosphere! We had / have a metal allergy bracelet that he is unable to wear when he plays sports, so I am looking for a replacement that is soft and wearable all the time. It frustrates me that he has to take it off while playing, especially during break times, when they distribute snacks. My younger son is 6 and is ready for allergy testing! I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will have none of his brother’s allergies!

My son is allergic to dairy, egg, soy, all tree nuts, peanuts , coconut, corn, pineapple, and fish. He also has asthma and eczema. He is now getting to the age where he is more aware of his allergies and I think the allergy bracelet would help serve as a reminder to him and others.

Wow, that’s a lot! I remember when my son had a whole list of toxic foods – some turned out to just be sensitivities, but a few remain full blown allergies, even resulting in anaphylaxis. The coconut and pineapple, are they true IgE allergies? Those definitely were issues for my son, but not a true allergy. Hugs to you and your family – especially your little man. Managing all those food allergies and eczema and asthma is rough. I’m sure the allergy bracelet would be a great reminder for him, his friends, and care givers. Jennifer
Jennifer my son is allergic to eggs, peanuts and tree nuts and he also has asthma. We have purchased a different bracelet for him to wear, but he is not in love with it so now I am looking at the Allerbling! We listen to Kyle Dine’s music and my son loves to sing Food Allergies rock all the time. As a matter of fact we sing almost all the songs together with his big sister who does not have allergies. I think William a lot more comfortable and accepting of his allergies then I am, LOL, but I am grateful for that.

Its hard to say. She may think its really cute if you get one with little characters on it. They aren’t very expensive, so maybe its worth a try?
