Dr. Amy Duong: 5 Tips for Healing Eczema with a Naturopath

Although everyone’s bodies are unique and it’s best to undergo a naturopathic evaluation to determine the best route to healing, the following five general tips for healing eczema naturally are beneficial for anyone.

1. Anti-inflammatory Diet

Eat a predominantly plant-based diet that is colorful, full of dark leafy greens and seasonal vegetables including sweet potatoes, onions, beets, carrots, kale, spinach, and zucchini. To get started, find a good cookbook, like Anti-Inflammatory Eating Made Easy.

2. IgG Food Allergy Panel

This test will look for inflammation in your body caused by eating certain foods – the most common sensitivities are gluten/wheat, dairy, eggs, and yeast, but they vary from person to person.  Eliminating the foods that trigger inflammation in your body will calm the immune system’s hyper reaction to these foods, and help to resolve eczema.

You can read more about the various types of food testing HERE.

3. Daily green smoothie or green juice daily

Begin a daily habit of having a fresh green smoothie or green juice daily.  This practice will establish a strong nutritional foundation, cleanse the liver, and improve digestion – all integral for healing eczema. Not sure where to start? Jennifer loves this Breville Juicer because it’s easy to use, easy to clean and it’s inexpensive. And there are tons of recipe books for the most novice of juicers, something like The Big Book of Juices would do the trick.

4. Stress-management

Enjoy nature with regular walks, meditate, receive acupuncture, or participate in an activity that allows your body energy to move – this is beneficial to promote the free flow of energy and instill calm to a stressful condition.

5. Seek naturopathic medical care

Eczema can be an emotionally and physically difficult condition to address for the whole family.  Seek professional help from a naturopathic doctor for a more natural approach that treats the cause and supports the optimum function of the body, inside-out.

I love this blog! I have had eczema, asthma, egids, and other allergy related problems since I was little. I had he bad eczema. The “can’t take your socks off because they stuck to the bloody scabs and now they’re glued on” kind of eczema. I am just now starting to crack some of the codes myself, and blogs like these rock! My skin cleared up really fast after doing a top 8 elimination diet, originally for my eoe. You can track my progress here! Fixmysweettooth.wordpress.com

I just came across your site as I was searching for info on the Alcat test. I wanted to share that I had eczema since childhood, and then in my early 30’s was treated by a homeopath. She gave me a constitutional remedy and in 3 weeks the eczema was gone. It just melted off my hands and arms. My severe allergies also disappeared. I have never had a recurrence of the eczema. I can’t say enough about how worth it it is to find a good homeopath and work with them for this very challenging issue.

That’s so wonderful to hear Katryn! We spent 6 months each with two different homeopaths and didn’t see any changes, but I’m thrilled to know how well it worked for you. That’s fantastic!
