Allergen Free Candy: Angry Birds Birthday with Surf Sweets

My son Tristan is a raving fan of Angry Birds. He had never even played the game (we have since shamelessly given on this), just heard all his friends at pre-school talking about it and so he jumped right in on the fun. He was drawing Angry Birds at school and talking non-stop about the piggies and making all the totally non-annoying sound effects.

So, naturally, when I asked him what kind of party he wanted for his fifth birthday last summer, he jumped up and down shouting ANGRY BIRDS! Me: “What? No, way!!! I NEVER would have guessed. Are you sure?!” Much giggling ensued.

I found a ton of great online resources for some easy games like knocking over the TNT boxes. And I made a cute pin the beak on the Angry Bird.

I decided to go for cupcakes because I found some free online cupcake toppers that were pretty adorable. And I made dirt cake using Cybele Pascal’s recipes for Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting and just the cookie recipe from her Chocolate Sandwich Cookies for the dirt – all from her Allergen-Free Baker’s Handbook. They were perfect! And to top it off, I added these super cute and very tasty Surf Sweet’s Gummy Worms. I’m not that crafty and not that patient when it comes to decorating cakes, but I think they turned out pretty cute. And they were absolutely delicious – rich and chocolaty. And of course the kids loved them.

We love Surf Sweets candy because they are free of trans fats, GMOs, corn syrup, gluten, artificial colors and flavors. And they produce their products in a nut-free facility that is free of other common allergens (wheat, dairy, soy, eggs, tree nuts, shell fish, and fish). So, they are completely safe for my son and we adore the fruity taste from real fruit – not the artificial flavoring found in almost all the other candy found in stores. This is the ONLY candy I allow my children to have unless it’s homemade. Why? Because it’s healthy and it’s safe.

We too do not allow most candy except the naturally flavored and colored ones! We have to make a special trip to the natural store for it, but so worth it! My kids love the gummy worms the best!
